2022 ADMIRAL’S DINNER Raises Over

for Student Scholarships

O nce again, Maritime College and the SUNY Maritime Foundation honored remarkable individuals and organizations at the Admiral’s Dinner. On Tuesday, September 20, over 500 Maritime College alumni and friends gathered at Marina del Rey in the Bronx to raise scholarship funds for Maritime students and celebrate industry leaders Kevin Collins ’96, Partner at MCA Associates; Boriana Farrar, VP and Chief Legal Officer at Patriot Contract Services LLC; and WISTA USA (Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association). The SUNY Maritime Foundation’s annual event, set against the breathtaking backdrop of the New York City skyline overlooking the East River, focused on

the importance of supporting students that need financial assistance to attend and graduate from Fort Schuyler. The event raised over $700,000 in new scholarship funds for incoming Maritime students – a record high since 2017! Admiral Alfultis reminded the guests that “too many students face high hurdles on their journey to graduation and we know that the highest hurdle is often affording the cost of attendance.” Patrick Connolly ‘25 and William Bischofberger ‘24, who receive scholarship support from the Admiral’s Dinner scholarship fund, addressed the audience directly to explain the hardships they and their families confront to meet the cost of attendance. If it were not for the scholarship support they receive,

they would not be able to pay the tuition, room, board, fees, books and other necessary costs. This year was unique in that the event celebrated its first “satellite” event in Houston, TX, hosted by Stolt Tankers USA, Inc. Attendees enjoyed cocktails and bites while networking with their local industry cohort. The event also included a live-feed of the NY dinner, including exclusive interviews and virtual auction. The Foundation is excited to expand this principal fundraising event to even more cities in the coming years.
