BLUE WATER SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Jaime Cleveland ’95 never expected to have heart problems, especially after rowing for the Maritime Crew Team from 1991–1995. Since then he tried to keep up his fitness with regular runs and weights. When he found himself undergoing heart surgery in 2017, he reflected on his life, finding it very fulfilling. He was grateful for his wife Jenny

On May 15, 2017, they established the non-profit Blue Water Shipping, and in the current 2019-2020 academic year, 12 scholarships totaling $47,000 were awarded. Criteria for the 2020-2021 school year is available at: www.bluewaterscholarshipfund.org

and their three girls Layla, Eloise and Haley. His career as Chartering Manager for Vitol was rewarding and he had come to love Houston. He maintained close contact with his family and friends, but the one regret he acknowledged was having not “given back” enough. Jaime attributed his career success to the experiences from Maritime College and the mentoring he received in the early years of his career. While he supported the College and Alumni Association fundraising campaigns, he wanted to do more. The day before his surgery, Jaime called his roommate, Jim Hoy ’95 and their long-time mentor John Curtin, and by the end of their conversation, they agreed to create a scholarship/mentorship program for future shipping industry professionals.

62nd CLASS REUNION The Class of 1957 were pleased with the turnout in celebration of their 62nd reunion and they really enjoyed the Francis Maron Hotel and all that Charleston has to offer.
