CHAPTER GATHERINGS
DELAWARE VALLEY / PHILADELPHIA CHAPTER 54th Annual Ports of Philadelphia Maritime Society Crab Feast
The Del Val Philadelphia MCAA Chapter, headed by President Dr. Art Sulzer ’74, jointly presents the Annual Crab Feast with the Ports of Philadelphia Maritime Society. On September 15, a group of crab aficionados gathered at historic Revolutionary War Fort Mifflin on the Delaware River to enjoy their crab feast under a clear late-summer sky. Great fellowship was shared among Maritime alumni from Classes of 1962 through 2022. Those willing to take a short break from enjoying their crab dinner for a Chapter photo are, left to right: Steven Hudson ’16, Dan Wooster ’99, Kirsten Johnston ’16, Art Sulzer ’74, Ian Mullins ’08, and Charlie McCammon ’87.
Last Line Cast Off as the New Training Ship Sets Sail for Fort Schuyler Friday, September 15, 2023, saw the departure of our new training ship, Empire State VII, from the pier at Philly Shipyard for her berth at Olivet Pier at SUNY Maritime. Alumni from the Del Val Chapter joined to help give her a proper send-off aboard tugs from Moran and McAllister assisting her away from the bulkhead and onward into fair winds and following seas.
Left, Captain Morgan McManus is just visible on the port bridge wing sounding the ship’s whistle as Chief Mate Peter Vecchio ’92 hauls the forwardmost last line aboard ship at the foredeck. Right, Art Sulzer ’74 shows off the Del Val Chapter banner as he observes cast-off and departure from aboard the launch Pelican.
