2020 Admiral's Dinner e-Journal

SUNY Maritime Foundation, Inc.

Dear Alumni, Friends and Supporters, On behalf of the SUNY Maritime Foundation, it is our great pleasure to host the 2020 Virtual Admiral’s Dinner. Although not in person this year, the Admiral’s Dinner is still an extremely important event. The Foundation and SUNY Maritime College are proud to be celebrating the next 100 years of the Jones Act and recognizing four outstanding honorees – Jennifer Carpenter, President and CEO of American Waterways Operators; Lindsay Price ’07, Captain, G&H Towing; Michael Roberts, President of American Maritime Partnership and Senior VP at Crowley Maritime; and Mark Ruge, Partner at the law firm of K&L Gates. Each honoree represents the best of the U.S. Maritime industry. The Admiral’s Dinner event, being the primary source of funding for student scholarships, impacts the lives of so many students who rely on financial support to attend SUNY Maritime College. Last year, through the generosity of our sponsors and participants, the Dinner raised over $600,000. This year the venue is different and the need to raise scholarship funding has increased dramatically given the effects of the pandemic. As jobs were lost or hours cut, many of our hardworking students and their parents are finding it difficult to make ends meet. By supporting this virtual event, you will be investing in the success of a new generation of mariners – those who will launch the next 100 years of the Jones Act. So please be generous. The Foundation is an IRS-recognized charitable organization established to increase and manage private donations to support the vision and mission of the College. The volunteer Board of Directors serve as fiduciary agents providing independent stewardship and oversight of all funds raised, while Admiral Alfultis’ service as an ex-officio member ensures that the Foundation is fully informed of the school’s goals, challenges, needs and opportunities. With federal funding in place to build our new training vessel, it is an exciting time for the College and the future officers training to succeed in the maritime industry. It seems a fitting time to celebrate the next 100 years of the Jones Act, the backbone of the U.S. merchant marine that will directly support our future Fort Schuyler graduates. Not only does it provide stability to the U.S. maritime industry, it also helps sustain 650,000 American jobs resulting in $150 billion in economic benefits each year. Please sit back and enjoy the 2020 Virtual Admiral’s Dinner. Thank you to those who have already donated in support of the students. For those who have not yet given, please make a gift on-line by clicking HERE, through the mail, or by calling Aimee Bernstein, Executive Director of the Foundation, at 718.409.5475. By making a donation…. you are making a big difference in some student’s life! Best regards,
